About us

The Maimonides Biomedical Research Institute of Cordoba (IMIBIC) is a health research institute founded in 2008 and based on an agreement between the Regional Ministry of Health, the Regional Ministry of Economy and the University of Cordoba. Another agreement between the founding entities was signed in 2015, to reinforce their commitment to consolidate IMIBIC as a biomedical research center of excellence. In 2011, IMIBIC was accredited as a Health Research Institute by the Spanish National Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII). Since then, the Institute has been re-accredited every five years, the latest exercise having successfully concluded in 2021.

As one of the 32 institutes in Spain recognized by the ISCIII, IMIBIC is a multidisciplinary research space where scientists from the academic and health care sectors work together to improve the health of citizens and boost the social and economic development in the province of Cordoba.

IMIBIC is managed by the Foundation for Biomedical Research of Cordoba (FIBICO), founded in 2007.

Our mission is to develop and promote a scientific and innovative space of multidisciplinary collaboration in which to conduct projects aimed at solving health problems based on precision medicine and science of excellence.

Our vision is to be a center dedicated to translational research of excellence in precision medicine and innovation, both nationally and internationally.

IMIBIC supports high quality, ethical scientific research based on the principles of healthcare improvement, social commitment, innovation and excellence. These principles are shared and supported by all members of the Institute.

Quality Policy

IMIBIC believes that quality is an essential aspect of the Institute’s activities. Quality must be quantified and therefore measured objectively and evaluated externally by other institutions. To this end, the activities of the Institute are geared to meeting the needs of professionals, patients and other stakeholders by means of an Integrated Quality Management System in accordance with the accreditation scheme of the ISCIII Health Research Institutes.

Política ambiental

IMIBIC, aware of the environmental consequences of its research and administrative activities, has the responsability to transmit and spread environmental knowledge and values in the personal, social and professional spheres, integrating environmental criteria and principles, as stated in the values of its current Strategic Plan. The aim is to foster as environmental culture based on responsibility for the protection and improvement of the environment among all organisational units through various actions and commitments.

Research, Development and Innovation Policy

At IMIBIC, innovation means introducing new products, services or organisational processes in the system that permit the effective application of research results and translate them into real benefits for the health of citizens.

Our Research, Development and Innovation Policy is built on the strategic pillars of multidisciplinary collaboration and precision medicine as the foundation of a translational Institute with a national and international scope.

The R&D&I policy is based on a global and cross-cutting approach to ensure only the highest standards of quality. To achieve this aim, we have a R&D&I management system that complies with UNE Standard 166002:2014.
