The Maimonides Biomedical Research Institute of Cordoba (IMIBIC) is a health research institute founded in 2008 and based on an agreement between the Regional Ministry of Health, the Regional Ministry of Economy and the University of Cordoba. Another agreement between the founding entities was signed in 2015, to reinforce their commitment to consolidate IMIBIC as a biomedical research center of excellence. In 2011, IMIBIC was accredited as a Health Research Institute by the Spanish National Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII). Since then, the Institute has been re-accredited every five years, the latest exercise having successfully concluded in 2021.
As one of the 32 institutes in Spain recognized by the ISCIII, IMIBIC is a multidisciplinary research space where scientists from the academic and health care sectors work together to improve the health of citizens and boost the social and economic development in the province of Cordoba.
IMIBIC is managed by the Foundation for Biomedical Research of Cordoba (FIBICO), founded in 2007.
Our Mission is to develop a space for scientific excellence by promoting talent, collaboration, international research and innovation, and to solve health problems in a sustainable and socially responsible way and respecting equal rights.
Our Vision is to become a consolidated center of excellence for translational research and bio-sanitary innovation, with the aim to improve people’s health and quality of life.
The IMIBIC’s values - sustained by shared ethical principles, beliefs and qualities – are the basis of our institutional culture. The values guiding our ethical and high-quality research are Scientific excellence, Quality, Talent, Innovation, Equal opportunities, Collaboration, Participation, and Sustainability. These principles will be shared and complied with by all members of the Institute.
Quality is an essential aspect of all our activities. Quality must be quantified, measured objectively, and evaluated externally by other institutions. To this end, the activities of the Institute are geared to meeting the needs of professionals, patients and other stakeholders through an Integrated Quality Management System and following the accreditation scheme of the ISCIII Health Research Institutes.
At IMIBIC we are conscious of the environmental burden generated by our research and administrative activities. We are responsible for transmitting knowledge and values concerning environmental issues within our personal, professional and social environment, by integrating criteria and principles of sustainability in our daily activities, as detailed in IMIBIC’s Strategic Plan. By this focus, we aim to increase an environmentally friendly culture throughout all our organizational units and implement activities to protect and improve our environment.
At IMIBIC, innovation means introducing new products, services and organizational processes that permit the effective application and translation of research results into real benefits for the health of citizens.
Our R&D&I policy is built on the strategic pillars of multidisciplinary collaboration and precision medicine. The policy is based on a global and cross-cutting approach to ensure only the highest standards of quality.
To achieve this aim, our R&D&I management system complies with the UNE Standard 166002:2014.
