Lifestyles, Innovation and Health group is an Associated Group of IMIBIC (GA-16) founded in November of 2020. It is formed by clinicians and engineers passionate about how technology and science can improve our lives. This interdisciplinary group is integrated by 13 researchers from different profiles, where both health professionals (physicians, nurses, nutritionists), engineering (computer and agricultural engineers), and education (educational psychologist) stand out.
Our group is mainly focused on offering solutions to prevalent health problems through health promotion and disease prevention interventions, and the development of innovative and technological solutions for diagnosis and treatment, following sustainability and cost-effectiveness criteria and with a distinctly interdisciplinary methodology.
For this reason, the orientation towards the development and validation of tech-based tools (predictive models, hardware and software, and innovative methodologies) for healthcare professionals and the population is the main reason and motive for their creation. Our group is continuously looking for a real impact on society regarding better health outcomes and adopting healthy lifestyles. This approach can be found in every project we designed and executed.
Lines of Research
Development of solutions to health problems based on information and communication technologies, with a particular interest in those related to mobile devices.
Development of non-invasive or minimally invasive predictive models based on epidemiological data or collected through sensor systems (IoT) for monitoring health status and early diagnosis of chronic non-communicable diseases, highlighting those linked to cardiovascular health at different stages of life, as well as to people in situations of dependency.
Development of research projects in low-and middle-income countries focused on improving vulnerable populations' health status, especially concerning their nutritional status.
Design and validation of innovative tools, processes, and interventions that improve health outcomes for critically ill patients.
Optimization of algorithms and hardware for computing large volumes of data mainly applied to image processing during surgery.
Processing and analysis of thermographic images fused with conventional cameras, application in Covid-19 detection.
Combination and analysis of data obtained from sensors, vision, advanced processors, and artificial intelligence for the realization of movement and behavior models linked to health/disease patterns.
